Two friends

Walked down this road once.

It was more of a shuffle really.

The autumn years had long betrayed their legs the spring of youth.

Yet their gnarled hands entwined

As naturally as a vine embraces a branch

Reaching for the sun.

But it was the radiance of their smiles

As their eyes embraced

That made me stop and wonder,

Entranced at the sight

Of God’s most gracious gift.
